of the morng. one more stop, accident, inner loop off wilson bridge between route 1 and telegraph to be more precise. police are on e scene. an accident 66 inside the beltway near east falls church metro station. a car smacked into a guardrail. so we'll get more information on that as quickly as we can. out to the rails, metrorail doing fine. vre, not so much. two trains delayed, 300 and 302. mark rail, 503 nine minutes behind schedule. we're on top o breaking news this morning. a man is shot and killed at 11th and galloway street. it happened at fort circle park. he was shot in the head. police say they're looking for a gray chevy tahoe with two people inside. air force one just touched down in tokyo, japan. president obama will attend another economic summit.

earlier today he held a press conference in seoul, south korea. he warned other countries not to slip back into the old ways that caused the economic crisis in the first place. >> we agreed to keep focusing on growth. at home,he united states has been doing our part by making historic investments and infrastructure in investigation, research and clean energy. as a consequence our economy is growing again as we must do more to ensure the growth is sustained and translates into jobs for our people. at the g-20 summit, the president was unsuccessful in securing a free trade agreement with south korea. he also made little progress with china and tas about currency. the u.s. has long accused china of deliberately keeping its currency value low in order to boost its exports >> we're following a developing story in indonesia. hot ash is poouring from mt.

merapi. the volcano violently erupted two weeks ago after sitting rmant for years. a series of blasts killed 206 people. it includevictims who died of respiratory problems and other illnesses related to all these eruptions. this morning the d.c. fire department is inveigating allegations that two emts lied about where their ambulance wa when responding to a call in which an elderly woman had died. they were originally signed to 14th street north of park road early one woman in september. a 911 call came in about an incident of a woman bleeding from medical incision on her neck. the ambulance arrived 16 minutes later. the ambulance was apparently not at the firestation near the woman that eventually died. instead, it was at a statn a few miles away. they are not commenting on the

incident. hospital center are planning to go through with a one-day strike on the day before thanksgiving. national nurses unit says understaffing is hurting patient care. the union now hopes a strike wi force a new contract with hospital management. they do have a contingency plan in place in case they strike. >> and d.c. drivers, listen up. beginning today, you will get a ticket if you're caught by one of three new red light cameras. connecticut avenue and porter, 14th and k streets and third street and new york avenue northwest. cameras have been up for abo a month but only issuing warnings so far. now, though if you get caught going through a red light you will receive a $75 ticket in the mail. >> a traffic alert for drivers. ohio drive construction that's given drivers headaches for months now is nearly complete. but they'll have to deal with one last weekend of closures. news 4's megan mcgrath is li

with more. good morning, megan. >> reporter: well, good morning, eun. this project has been going on for months and it's been causing major problems for folks not just for folks who travel through ohio dri but backed up to virginia. it's bn a choke point for a long time. good news, this project is going to be over by monday's ru hour. bad news, we'll have a major, major closure or the weekend and it's going to tie up traffic here. they will close ohio drive down completely for the duration of the weekend. let'take a look at the specifics here. they will shut down ohio drive at 11:00. late tonight they will be doing the work through the weekend. they will reopen the road at 5:00 a.m. on monday in time for rush hour. shut down over rock creek parkway, independence avenue at 23rd street. they will do paving, striping.

the best way to do that and get it done as quickly as possible is just to shut the road dn. you're not going to be able to take ohio drive from friday night until early monday morning. the good news here, eun, once they reopen this road this project is history. >> a welcomed change. megan mcgrath. megan, thank you. and you could be in for long delays if you are taking metro this weekend. crews will be doing work on all five lines. red line passengers should add a half hour between shady grove and twin brook and 20 minutes between new york and rhode land avenue. orange, expect delays 30 minutes between vienna and west falls church. half-hour delays also expected on the blue and yellow line at paddock road. and green line 20 minutes between prince george's plaza and college park. who wants to start charging

now to a story you saw first on 4. a veterans day attack at an american legion post. an attacker approached a victim while she was laying a wreath ouide. he reportedly handcuffed her and two other women inside after one of the victims tried to fight him off. >> she came out and jumped on his back and threw coffee on him and tried to get h off me. he just kept running around, where's the money? >> the woman ended up serving veterans after being treated at the hospital. police say the suspect took off in one of the victim's cars. they found the car but no other signs of the suspect. a silver spring man is facing assault charges this morning after a dramatic road rage incident. it happened sunday afternoon in prince george's county along powder mill road in beltsville.

police say 47-year-old andrew dunn was trying to pass a car but could not. the other car stopped and dunn pulled up next and started yelling at the driver inside. when the driver pulled away and call police, dunn pulled out a gun and started firing shots. police heard evething over the phone. no one was hurt. >> having a pet die is never easy, but for one maryland woman e had to deal with the loss of her dog twice because the pet cemetery lost her dog's remains on a highway all because a door was not closed. they lost teddy because the driver forgot to close the door. harris said she walked up and down miles of road to try to nd the box carrying teddy's remains. >> i feel unjust for this animal, that he was born in such a rrific thing. it's like he's trash is how i felt.

>> good morning. welcome back to news 4 today. i'm joe krebs. i'm eun yang. it is friday, november 12th, 2010. a beautiful sky out there. as sunrise is nearing the nation's capital. so nice out there. we have had nice weather, too. >> sunrise beginning later and later even though we fell back last weekend. they're getting a minute later. this morning, 6:47. in 16 minutes. righnow, 6:31. it's at or below freezing throughout most of the region. right near washington and near the bay. right now national airport 38. georgetown, district heights, fewer field, sandy spring, gaithersburg a clear sky. by noon ime, should warm up to the id-50s. by early to midafternoon, we should briefly touch the 60s.

chilly start for saturday. a look at saturday and sunday in ten minutes. how is the traffic now? >> chopper 4 over the scene of the accident. now we get some pictures from the sky of the accident inside the capital beltway along interstate 66. as you head through falls church, the accident takes away the left lane of two at that point. everody is squeezing down to just one single travel lane. as a result traffic inbond 66 delays will begin as you come off the dulles connector. this is inbound inside the capital beltway. coming to a grinding halt quickly. definitely need extra time. patience will be needed with an accident inner loop between route 1 in alexandria and telegraproad. fullback to maryland. show you what it looks like traveling out of oxen hill. coming to a grinding halt as you come down from at least 295 across the wilson bridge headed for the accident in alexandria.

a hot shower, little electricity and nothing remotely close to the all-you-can-eat buffets. it was more like all the spam and pop-tarts you can eat. aaron, many described their trip as a nightmare. >> reporter: joe, three miserable days on board the carnival splendor. everybody made the best of a bad situation there, but they said that was n easy. passengers described how their cabins rattled as theruise ship came to a complete stop 200 miles from san diego. there was a fire in one of the engine rooms the. sblen door lost power, cabins filled with smoke. passengers say at one point crew members told them to head for the life boats. turned out that wasn't necessary. but 4,500 passengers and crew members were stranded at sea with no air-conditioning, no hot water, and after a while, no decent food. the food was a little bit cold. >> we had sandwiches, lots of salad. >> and salad. i think we lost ten pounds.

faisson says the clerk told her it was for security reasons. >> sheaid the camera can't see your face. and i had moved it back a little so she can see the lining of my hair. and she wouldn't sell me anything out of the store. and i felt discriminated against. >> fast mart issued a statement saying it has a zero tolerance policy involving any type of discrimination. the rimond-based convenience store suspended e clerk while investigating the incident. >>aking liquor stores privately owned is a hot topic in montgomery county this morning. county executive ike leggett said he rejectedhe idea in the past but he is willing to reconsider it. virginia governor bob mcdonald is exploring a similar

lots of sun. a terrific day. a small chance of a shower on monday that might affecthe skins game monday night. a look at next week in t minutes. how is the traffic, jerry? breaking news having a major impact on a lot of folks's commute this morning. chopper 4 over the scene of the accident. inbound i-66 inside the beltway, very close to the east falls church metro station in the two-lane stretch. authorities still dealing with this accident. a couple vehicles involved, one of which went into the jersey wall. as a result, inbound 66 delays not too long after you leave the beltway. very close to the beltway exit as we pull back you can see the delays developg quickly. inbound i-66 inside the beltway. so heads-up for that. let's head over and see how we're doing on i-270. no surprises so far. just a little bit of volume. out on the rails this morning, metro is doing fine. vre having some minor issues. all in all, not that bad.

>> what took an ambulance more than 15 minutes to respond to a woman blocks away bleeding to deh from a medical incision in her neck? it's a question the d.c. fire department wants to know. it happened inorthwest washington and the woman did die

from injury her injuries. elaine reyes is live with more on this exclusive. good morning, elaine. >> reporter: good morning, joe. it's a qstion that the woman's family members also want answered. investigators are trying toind if any of the first responders lied about that incident. it happened back in september early one morning. 72-year-old christina was bleeding uncontrollably from a shunt in her neck. a fire truck arrived six minutes after the call. when it radioed to ask for the ambulance it's alleged it was not at the firestation a few blocks away but instead closer to a different firestation at rhode island avenue and fourth street northwest where it was about to end a shift. now right now d.c. fire and ems is investigating this incident as we said. right now they're not commenting on this case. we're live in columbia heights. aine reyes, news 4. >> thanks very much.

nurses at washington hospital center are planning to go through with a one-dastrike on the day before thanksgiving. national nurses united says understaffing is hurting patient care. the union now hopes a strike will force a new deal with hospital management. they're still hopeful for a relution, however, they have a contingency plan in case there is a strike. a group known for protesting homosexuality and picketing at funerals of soldiers is now targeting high school students in maryland. they are planning to protest tomorrow a school play attracted this controversy. it is about a town in larramie

where a student was murdered. it led to a federal hate crime law. students say they have no plans to have a counter protest tomorrow evening. beginning next year, paying to gto college in maryland may cost moremoney. governor martin o'malley says after a four-year freeze the tuition rate cannot is stay flat much longer. he is pushing for a 3% incase next year. o'malley says he hopes to keep the increase at 3% for the next four years. tea party activists in virginia may soon be able to show political pride on their bumpers. stay state lawmakers want to present a plate. it will feature the phrase "don't tread on me" with rattlesnake and yellow emblem on the flag. that's the symbol of the tea party movement. the plate could be issued in virginia once 350 paid

applications are submitted to the dmv. 600 people have expressed interest in the plates. the ballot count in alaska is getting pretty ugly. senator lisa murkowski's team accused rival joe miller of making approximate petty challenges had iher write-in campaign. a miller observer challenged a vote from murkowski that appeared to have her name printed and spelled correctly though the "l" was in cursive handwriting. murkowski launched a write-in campaign after losing the republican nomination to miller. under state law write- ballots must have the al filled in and either the candidate's last name or the name as it appears on their declaration. phonetic spelling will also be counted. new this morning nissan insured a major recall involving a half million vehicles. cnbc courtney reagan joins us live with more on this story. hi, courtney. >> reporter: good morning, joe. nissan is recalling frontier

pickup trucks and xterras because the steering shafts c coode. they were made between 2001 and 2008 and sold right here in the u.s. nissan is also recalling 18,000 sentras because a faulty battery connection could cause the car to stall at low speeds. fedex expects to ship 16 million packages on december 13th, the busiest day of the year. that's the highest prediction ever for a single day, up 11% from last year. they are in partnership with the postal service and deals with gifts ordered online. if people are shipping, people are buying. so far it looks like consumer confidence is doing pretty well for the holidays. if wese that as a measure. >> certainly good news. hope it holds out. thanks very much, courtney. have a great weekend. >> reporter: you too.
